Neuromuscular Dentistry
Neuromuscular Dentistry also known as TMJ or Temporomandibular Joint Disorder is caused by faulty articulation of the temporomandibular joint. Symptoms often include facial pain, jaw popping or clicking, headaches, ringing ears, dizziness and stiffness of the neck.
Neuromuscular dentistry seeks to cure TMJ by retraining muscles, tissues, and nerves to properly align the jaw at rest. If the jaw is not in the proper position at rest, it must work harder to perform regular functions - such as speaking or chewing - and in turn may repeatedly injure surrounding muscles. Dr. MacArthur specializes in a variety of treatment options, including neuromuscular dentistry, designed to alleviate and eliminate the symptoms of TMJ.
